Karen McCarthy
Karen
McCarthy was born in Seattle, Washington and started her music career
in grade school. She studied with Robeson Allport of the Seattle
Symphony and played with the Seattle Youth Symphony and Thalia, a
community orchestra, performing concertos with both groups. She
also spent one summer at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New
York.
Moving to
Portland, several years were spent focused on her family. She
re-entered music with 2 years at Portland State University and played
with the University of Portland Orchestra for many years, Oregon
Sinfonietta and the Cascade Symphony. She studied with Fred
Korman of the Oregon Symphony. Currently she is principal oboe
with the Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra and enjoys playing chamber music with
friends in the Rivercity Oboe Trio.
